“It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter.”
— Alfred Eisenstaedt
Hi! My name is Sara Taplin, and I’m passionate about preserving memories. I am a full-time wedding photographer nestled outside a sweet little Manitoban town with my husband Adam and our two adventurous sons, Ryan and Theo. When I’m not editing my camera reel, I can be found binging the latest on Netflix or immersed in a really good book. I don’t discriminate when it comes to a good drink - be it tea, coffee, or beer - and when it comes to food, I will try almost anything. I spend my time capturing the beautiful, lighter side of life, so naturally, I give it balance by being a huge fan of true crime podcasts. However, like most people, I keep my Amazon Prime account and my mailman on their toes. I run a pretty busy week with my garden, twelve chickens, two pigs, three cats, and two dogs on our slice of land nestled between two large parks, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. My love for nature (hi, fellow campers!) might contribute to my love for connecting with others, because I thrive off living life to its fullest! What better way than with people and the great outdoors? This is a large part of why I knew photography was the path for me.
Wedding photos are kind of a big deal
Life is at its most beautiful when we can connect with each other, and one of the most profound connections is that between two partners. I’m going to be honest - I get straight up giddy when a couple asks me to document their wedding day. While they are important, I don’t just capture the big moments like the vows, the cake cutting, or the kiss. I focus on the feeling. I catch the look he has when he can’t believe you chose him, the flower girl nudging the petals in her basket in awe, and the bridesmaid who cracked a joke that’s definitely not appropriate, but makes everyone laugh so hard the makeup artist has to do a touch-up. I grab the high-fives between groomsmen and give the most sarcastic one a run for his money with my own sharp humor. Relating to and connecting with people in all of those moments is the best way to bring that day alive again through my art. You deserve to have every moment remembered.
More than just a wedding photographer
I don’t just do wedding photography! We all know life continues after you get your happily ever after. Many of you are here because you have a family that never fails to keep things interesting and time has a tendency to fly by before we realize it. Like a lot of parents, I see my sons nurturing their adventurous spirit and creativity and I think, “I never want to forget this.” I would look back on old photos I captured and realize I was missing from them, and my need to take the photo always conflicted with my desire to be part of it. I don’t want you to miss out on getting time to slow down just enough to savour it, and with me there, you can breathe and take it all in. So it is more than just an honor to be your photographer. It’s camaraderie. It’s “I know how grateful I am when someone does this for me, and I want to do the same for the next family.”
What I’m trying to say is…
More than anything, I want to be your ally. The person you trust with documenting your happiness so that you can just enjoy it in the moment, feel all of the beautiful things this life and your loved ones can give you, and not have to worry about forgetting it. I want you to look back on a photograph of you looking in your partner’s eyes and remember how your breath was short and your heart felt large. Or to see a photograph of your kids tossing leaves in the air and you can still remember how crisp and fresh they smelled. A photograph is more than a memory captured; it’s the key to reliving that day and all of the emotions that came with it.
So let’s meet for coffee! Or tea or beer! You can drop me a message in the form below and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for choosing Sara Taplin Photography!
